A majority of my blog posts are about some deep subjects relating to mental health, life lessons, and friendships. It is crazy to think that, while I openly post about all of these things, I’ve never really taken the time to answer questions about me.
While I am not a professional blogger by any means, (as in, I have day job), I do put a lot of time, effort, and thought into this lil ol’ blog of mine. Most of my audience consists of people I know in real life, and I often get a lot of questions about my blog.
Additionally, a majority of my blog posts are about some deep subjects relating to mental health, life lessons, and friendships. It is crazy to think that, while I openly post about all of these things, I’ve never really taken the time to answer questions about me. Because of this, here is a post where you not only get to learn a bit more about the gal behind the writing, but I also answer a lot of questions I’m asked most often. Enjoy!
What made you start blogging?
I’ve dabbled on and off with blogging for a few years, but the thing that motivated me most was after I published What My Anxiety Does to Me (And How It Affects You). The response I received to it was so grand and overwhelming, and it was then I thought that maybe I was onto something.
You can read the entire story of how I got into blogging here.
How did you come up with your blog name?
Sometimes I feel like I have my act together, and other times I feel like I’m just a hot mess. It took a lot of work and I went through many names, but that’s the meaning behind it!
Are you afraid when you publish something about mental health?
The short answer is, of course! It’s a vulnerable place to be posting your own struggles on the internet, especially those surrounding mental health. While there are many groups of awesome, supportive people that understand the stigma around mental health holds no truth, there are still those that feel negatively. It can be really nerve-racking to post something so personal!
Why do you post about mental health?
In my opinion, the more we talk about mental health and the truth behind it, the more we can work to fight the stigma. People are afraid of things they don’t understand.
While it is scary to post about my mental health, I have the belief that someone has to do it, and I want to be one of those someones.
Have you ever received hate comments?
Naturally. Do I care? No.
Where do you get your post ideas?
All kinds of places! This is really cliché, but I get my post ideas from my everyday life. It could be something I think of while in the car on my way to work, while watching TV, out with a friend, eating dinner, shopping… the possibilities are endless!
What is your blogging style?
I call myself a lifestyle or mental health blogger. It’s the largest amount of content I post.
Does your family know about your blog?
They absolutely do! My mom is on my subscribers list, and my sister-in-law posts almost all of my blog posts to her Facebook. I have a very supportive family that I am fortunate enough to be very close to.
Do you make money with your blog?
Technically, yes. I make money from ads that run on blog.
What motivates you to write on your blog?
I’m a naturally artistic person and writing is a form of art that I really enjoy. That’s mostly where the motivation comes from.
Do you struggle to stick to a certain topic?
I call myself a lifestyle blogger, because while having people read and care about what you say is great, I mostly just want to express myself. This means writing about whatever I want, whenever I want. Every post cannot be deep, dark, and life changing. It’s no fun.
However, when you’re constantly reading articles about traffic and clicks and ads, blah blah blah, it can be hard to stick to my mantra. This is a place where I welcome you to my mind. That doesn’t fit into a single category.
How long does it take you to write a post?
The time it takes to write a post varies. Sometimes I have an idea for a post, I start it, and then don’t touch it again for months. Other times, I sit down and write an entire post in only a couple of hours. On average, I spend about 3 hours on each post.
Is blogging your job?
I wish! No, blogging is not my job. I have a day job.
Did you go to college for blogging?
I did not go to college for blogging. I am a certified secondary teacher in the state of Michigan. I studied Communication and Psychology.
Do you have social media pages?
I do! You can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
What are your hobbies?
Writing, naturally. I also craft (I sell things on RedBubble), paint, act, and perform stand-up comedy!
Do you have a YouTube channel or podcast?
I do not have a YouTube channel or podcast at this time.
What do you like to do when you aren’t at work or blogging?
My favorite thing in the world is hanging out with my nephew and niece. Being an aunt is the best role and title I have ever been given.
Are you married?
I am not married.
Do you have any kids?
I have no children. I’m just dreaming of a dog-child someday soon.
Where are you from?
I’m a native Michigander. Go weather changes!
Why don’t you post more pictures of you?
I’m just not really into selfies, I guess.
